Night at the Museum

WHEN: 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26

WHERE: Center Building on Plaza Circle

COST: $20 per ticket

INFO: Ron Swift, 892-6355.

The Patterson Township Historical Society members are ready for the third annual Night at the Museum fundraiser on Thursday, Sept. 26. Attendees can view some of the new acquisitions and see the work that has been done over the past few months.

Ron Swift, museum curator, noted that more than 100 people attended each of the past two events.

“This is the third year we’ve held this party and it’s been very popular and well attended,” Swift said. We have new things coming in regularly.”

One new addition to this year’s fundraiser is the local Soroptimist Club’s Patterson High School room display, coordinated by Coleen Sanguinetti and Gloria Satcher, members of the local service club.

The PHS display will featured throughout 2015, which is the 100th anniversary of Patterson High School’s first graduating class. Sanguinetti and Satcher also coordinated the wedding room items that were on display this past year.

One recent acquisition is longtime Patterson teacher Edna Keechler Stewart’s school bell. The popular teacher came to Patterson in 1928, intending to stay a year – yet stayed more than three decades.

In 2012, extensive work was done on the museum building with new floors, paint on the walls and a reorganization of displays taking up a lot of the year’s work. The museum was closed to the public while the numerous volunteers and service clubs, such as Lions Club members, completed the work in time for the fall open house.

Meanwhile, the museum is open weekday afternoons under the direction of curator Ron Swift and historical society docents. Volunteer docents are always needed and can stop by the museum or call Swift by phone.

It is estimated that by the end of the year, more than 2,000 visitors will have visited the museum in the last 12 months.

Local folks are invited to join the organization, which has annual dues of $20 for households and $100 for businesses. There is also a $150 one-time life membership dues category.

Through the year, members will receive the historical society publication, The Gateway as well as Spokes, the historical society newsletter.

The ticket reservation form for Night at the Museum will be sent out this week in the latest issue of Spokes. Anyone who wishes to attend the fundraiser should fill out the reservation form and mail it back to the society at P.O. Box 15, Patterson, CA 95363. Tickets will be mailed to attendees.
