The Tigers played 18 holes of golf for the first time this season and shot a collective 488 on the par-72 course at Chowchilla to finish behind first-place Central Catholic High of Modesto and runner-up Ceres High.
Sanchez led the way for Patterson at the tournament. She placed third with a total of 100 strokes, two shots behind co-medalists Emily Raspo of Central Catholic and Caitlin Pfaff of Ceres.
"Sarah went out and proved that she belongs among the elite players in our league with her solid performance," said Patterson coach Jason Oliveira. "This will be a great building block for the team as we move into the second half of league play."
Senior Vicky Cruz finished the match with a 128 for Patterson, while teammates Simone Grice and Sadie Schut fired rounds of 129 and 131, respectively. Chelsea Gregory (140) and Alejandra Rosas (141) rounded out the Tigers’ scorecard.
Patterson will continue its league season at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, when they travel to face Central Valley High of Ceres.
Patterson 230, Pacheco of Los Banos 251
A couple of defeats by two of the WAC’s best teams aside, Patterson has been at the top of its game during the first half of the 2013 season.
The Tigers competed against the Pacheco Panthers on Sept. 17 at Diablo Grande's par-36 Ranch Golf Course.
Sanchez paced Patterson (3-2) against visiting Pacheco, carding a match-low score of 49. The two-time All-league selection took home medalist honors for the third time this season.
"Sarah is really getting into a groove on our home course," Oliveira said. "This will be an advantage at the season's end, because both our league finals match and the sectional match are held on the Ranch course."
Grice (58), Cruz (60) and Schut (63) completed the Tigers’ scorecard.
