The first Am Jam, then called the Central Valley Am Jam, was hosted when the park opened in July 2011. The newer, bigger Cali Am Jam, which is a tour of different events throughout Northern and Southern California, will be offering a $350 first prize, a $100 second prize and a $50 third prize in five different age divisions and one open division. Registration is $20.
Other events have taken place in Oakland Park and Marina, according to the Cali Am Jam website.
More than 200 people are expected to be on hand for the event, which attracts food booths, skating vendors and will feature live bands and a D.J.
The Patterson City Council gave its seal of approval on the event Sept. 17 in approving the coverage of $475 in costs for city staff to be on hand, a loudspeaker permit and portable restrooms.
Javier Moreno, Jr., event coordinator said the recurring event could be the start of something big for Patterson.
“This brings a spectrum of skaters from all over California,” he said. “This is a great opportunity to not only bring in this tournament, but others as well.”
Giveaways will also include boards and equipment as well as tee shirts, he said.
Skaters earn cumulative points given by the Cali Am Jam Officials and the top five skaters in each division will earn prizes, including skateboards, accessories and other gear sponsored by industry and local sponsors
