The Tigers’ latest win came on the heels of a 2-1 defeat against visiting Ceres on Sept. 26.
Coach Greg Hartsell voiced his satisfaction with Patterson’s performance against Central Catholic, but insists that the Tigers (11-2 overall, 3-2 Western Athletic Conference) still have room for improvement. He wants to draw more from a squad he says is loaded with potential.
"We've still got a lot of work to do. We had a wonderful preseason, but something happened in between, and we've taken a few steps back since league play started," Hartsell said. "Today we wanted to come out and start fresh."
Patterson controlled the ball for the majority of the match against Central Catholic (2-6, 1-3), patiently working it around to create several scoring opportunities, and benefiting from four different goal-scorers.
Andres Herrera and Marcos Melendez tallied two first-half goals each for the Tigers. Teammates Wilver Barajas and Danny Rodriguez also lit up the scoreboard with a goal apiece for Patterson.
"Right now, we're still trying to fix a few problems. But we're practicing hard and we want to play better," Herrera said. "We need to stay focused on our goals, and keep putting in the work to get where we want to be."
The Tigers will continue their season at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, when they host the Livingston High Wolves (4-5-5, 1-4).
