I love fall! It is my favorite season. I love the changing colors in the landscape and the moderate temperatures. Sadly, it is a fairly short season, and seems to go by much too quickly. Long before I am ready, winter begins to creep in and force autumn off the scene.
Life is rather like the changing climate of the different seasons, isn’t it? We all experience some type of change in the course of our journey. People come in and out of our lives, trends change, and governments rise and fall.
At the time of this writing, our own government is going through a rather intense metamorphosis. Some within the structure are cocooning, others are climbing out of the cocoon, and some are just now beginning to stretch their wings to fly.
It is interesting to watch if nothing else. As we watch and listen to the debates going on, I can’t help but think of Scriptures that seem to apply to the situation.
Proverbs 18:17 comes to mind as the different sides argue their position: "The first to plead his case seems right until another comes and examines him." Some who are being “examined” don’t appear to be comfortable with the examination. And I get that. To have our thoughts and ideas held under close scrutiny isn’t always pleasant.
As a Christian, not only those around me, but by God Himself, hold me to a high standard of examination. I represent Him and His Son. It causes me to be mindful in my actions and prayers. One of my favorite is directly from Psalm 139:23&24: “Search Me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
I think it is a wise thing to pray on a consistent basis, because life is always in motion. Seasons change and I need to adapt correctly.
One thing that doesn’t change, though, is God and His word. He is the same yesterday, today and forever and His word is true for all seasons.
Knowing this, I am comfortable no matter what the climate may be.
