The car dealership broke ground for the new showroom and offices on Dec. 2, 2012 and is finishing up on the remodel this month, after having some staff housed in an office across the street.
“Everybody’s back in the main building — No more hunting for anyone any more,” Bruce Thompson, the dealership owner, said last week.
General Motors hires the architect firm and provides the general layout for its dealerships nationwide. The local dealer gets to choose the wall paint, carpet colors and outside colors of the building.
Thompson Chevrolet Buick GMC opened in downtown Patterson in 1965 in the former Napa Greer Auto Parts building on South Third Street. At that time, the used car lot was across the street.
Bruce Thompson’s dad, Chuck, who retired a few years ago, operated the business for many years. It was under Chuck Thompson’s leadership that the business made the move to the Highway 33 and Sperry Avenue building in 1973 — 40 years ago.
Now, the staff is together again under one roof.
“It was a long process,” Bruce Thompson said. “We invite everyone to take a look at it. We definitely plan to stay another 40 years.”
Today, Thompson Chevrolet Buick GMC operates with 32 employees. Besides selling cars, Thompson’s staff performs all service and all mechanic work on vehicles, and has a complete body shop on the premises.
General hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday though Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and is closed Sundays so employees can enjoy being with their families.
