There is one group in Patterson that quietly does so much good for all of us. They are the Friends of the Library members, who appreciate and advocate the freedom of information.

Through the Friends’ fundraising efforts, the Patterson community enjoys the benefits of family movie days, new and current children and adult books and magazines, story time programs for the children, and special events at the library, like the Reptile Show. Additionally, many of the complimentary items for the children’s crafts are supplied and replenished by the Friends.

Friends accomplishes this by fundraising through Membership drives, and two extraordinary Book Sales a year. Friends’ members voluntarily sort donated books, videos and DVD’s, and organize, advertise and staff the six days of book sales. Currently, Friends are in the annual Membership Drive. The cost of an individual membership is $10, and a family membership is $20. For those of you who may desire a lifetime membership, that donation is $150. Forms are at the Patterson Library.

Since Friends is a 501 (c) 3, membership is tax deductible and members receive an exclusive priority entry to the Book Sales.

Freedom of information is fundamental to the American way of life, and free and full access to the library sets us apart from many countries. Our nation’s system of 16,604 public libraries ensures all people a chance to find the information they need and want—in print or online (

Become a member of Pattersons’ Friends of the Library and keep nourishing our intellectual freedom of information.
