PHS fall athletes earn awards

Tiger coaches awarded their standout athletes Monday, Nov. 25 at the annual fall sports awards ceremony in the Patterson High cafeteria.

The event — which featured a number of competitors from the Patterson boys soccer, volleyball, cross country, girls golf and girls tennis teams — honored the best male and female athletes from each sport.

The ceremony also acknowledged a variety of other individual accolades, noting achievements in leadership, team spirit and overall improvement.

Boys soccer coach Greg Hartsell named Israel Sotelo the team's Most Valuable Player, while teammate Andres Herrera earned Outstanding Offensive Player honors. Both Fernando Ramos and Marcos Melendez were voted team co-captains.

The Outstanding Defensive Player of the year award went to Ramos, while Edwardo Delgadillo earned the Coach's Award.

Dayna Hansen took home the volleyball team's MVP honor, while teammate Arelly Magallon earned the Tiger Pride Award. Mele Tupouata came away with the Outstanding Offensive Player award, and Riquel Benitez captured Most Improved Player honors. Kiara Job and Mariele Schut were selected team co-captains.

Cross country coaches Joe Aguilar and Sara Gomez named Nathan Stanton and Lupe Ventura their Most Valuable Runners. Antonio Venegas and Carina Sotelo earned the team's Tiger Pride Awards. Steven Halseth and Alejandra Carrasco took home the Coach's Awards, while teammates Tomas Virgen and Lanaeya Banks earned Most Improved Runner accolades. Stanton, Ventura, Venegas, Dylan Halland and Brenda Vargas were voted team co-captains.

Girls golf coach Jason Oliveira named Sarah Sanchez the team's Outstanding Golfer. Simone Grice earned Tiger Pride honors, while Sanchez and Sadie Schut were selected team co-captains.

Catarina Borges, Keanna Garza, Ngoc Nguyen and Antonia Perez earned the girls tennis team's Coach's Awards, while Santana Mata and Kendal Norfleet were named the squad's co-captains.

Junior varsity and freshmen

The Patterson High JV and freshmen fall athletics seasons were also capped off at last week's ceremony.

Osbaldo Hernandez earned the JV boys soccer team's Tiger Pride award, while the Coach's Awards went to Anthony Garcia-Bradley and Christian Lomeli. Hernandez and Oscar Martinez were voted team co-captains.

JV volleyball coach Salina Williams named Estefania Ramos the team's Outstanding Offensive Player. Teammate Ana Martin came away with the Tiger Pride Award, while Naayliah Gayton earned the Best Attitude honor.

Danielle Jenkins and Rebeka Ramirez were named the team's co-captains.

Samantha Dougherty was named the freshman volleyball team's MVP. Teammate Emma Hansen took home Tiger Pride honors, while Dougherty and Faith Mamea were deemed team co-captains.

Aguilar named Arturo Navarro the JV cross country team's Most Improved Runner. Teammate Daniel Isquierdo earned the Coach's Award.
