December programs offered at local library

The Patterson Branch Library has a variety of programs on tap for December for the whole family. The library, at 46 N Salado Ave., is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and 12 Noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The library is closed on Friday and Sunday.

The local library will close at 12 noon on Dec. 24 and be closed all day on Dec. 25. The following week, the library will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will be closed all day on Jan.1.

Free programs offered throughout the month are:

• Reading Bingo from Dec. 2 to Dec. 31: Anyone may participate. Those who get “bingo” will get to choose a pencil and anyone who has a “blackout” with all squares filled in will have their name placed into a drawing for prizes.

• “The Affordable Care Act & You” will be presented at 2 p.m. on Dec. 9. Join Melissa Munoz from the California Health Collaborative for a discussion about the Affordable Care Act.

• Children’s Craft at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 11. Local youth can make a Tiny Tree Craft.

Children can create an adorable, tiny tree out of yarn. Materials will be provided.

Books will be displayed and available for checkout.

• Family Movie Night will feature “The Polar Express” at 2 p.m. on Dec. 14. The entire family can enjoy this animated film, based on the children’s story of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Patterson Library.

• Scrappin’ in Patterson will take place from 12 noon to 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 14. Community members are invited to join the Patterson Library and local scrap booking group at a series of free sessions to work on scrap booking/paper crafting projects. These are self-guided sessions, with members present to offer help if needed. Bring your own materials. Light refreshments will be provided.

• The Great Grinch Hunt! The hunt will be on from Dec. 14 to 19. The Grinch will be hidden in the library! Find his hiding place and win a prize.

• Teen Games and Crafts begin at 4 p.m. on Dec. 18. Teens can learn tactics and teamwork while playing fun Wii, board and card games. A bird feeder craft will also be available. Books will be displayed and available for checkout.
