PHS boys win consolation title at Stagg

The Patterson High varsity boys basketball team handed Edison High of Stockton a 57-50 loss to win the consolation game of the 56th annual Joe Nava Delta King Classic on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Stockton.

Patterson had a pair of players score in double figures. Senior Cariaun Williams had 19 points, and classmate Jordan Levu added 16. Levu was also named to the all-tournament team.

Levu was the Tigers leading scorer in Patterson's 60-55 defeat against Chavez High of Stockton on Thursday, Dec. 5 -- the first game of the tournament for both teams.

Senior Michael Smith scored 13 points, Williams scored nine, junior Kevin Phelps had seven and senior Justin Rodriguez had six for Patterson (2-2).

Junior Gurkirt Heerey and senior Avion Warmsley deposited three each in Thursday's loss.

Rodriguez and Williams combined for 28 points to lead the Tigers to a bounce-back 65-61 overtime win against Franklin High of Stockton on Friday, Dec. 6.

Rodriguez led all Tiger scorers with 15 points, while Williams had 13.

Heerey, Levu and Phelps each added nine points, while Smith registered six.

The season continues Thursday, Dec. 12, as Patterson travels for the Turlock High School Invitational.
