Northmead Elementary were among the many schools to hear Santa’s sleigh bells this week when they began their annual Holiday Parent Night Tuesday, Dec. 10 at their respective campus. Parents, teachers, volunteers, students and even Santa Claus congregated to the school grounds that evening to discuss eventful activities to keep children engaged while they remain at home throughout winter break.

City of Patterson’s Recreation department, as well as the Patterson Branch Library and Center for Human Resources were also in attendance to offer positive skillsets and motivational tools for parents. Teachers also presented their own resources, including learning games and books for the students.

Although parents reaped the benefits of the annual party setting, students were also kept busy as they began taking pictures with Santa, and were introduced special book club benefits during the evening’s book fair. Students were also encouraged to take home a book to keep themselves occupied during their winter break.

Northmead’s Parent Teacher Organization were among the many organizations present, and led a fundraising bake sale and craft table in the hopes of adding a festive flair for the children.

The Christmas spirit didn’t end there. The local students geared up for the start of their winter break on the following Wednesday, Dec. 11, where they hosted their annual Winter Concert during school hours. The children wore a variety of jovial accents, including Santa hats, as they caroled throughout the afternoon. The fifth-graders had a music concert later that evening as well, shepherding parents and visitors into the Christmas spirit.
