Healthy Choices winners named

Eziamaka Ogbuli, an eighth-grade student at Creekside Middle School, was recently awarded an iPod Touch after winning the grand prize in the Westside Health Care Advisory Task Force’s recent Healthy Choices essay contest.

Jim DeMartini, Stanislaus County Supervisor for District 5, presented the award to Ogbuli at the Monday, Dec. 16 Patterson Joint Unified School District board meeting.

DeMartini also presented awards of a $50 gift card to young artists, who were honored for their work in the poster contest. Honorees are Maria Lopez, a Walnut Grove School eighth-grader; Kameron Siegfried, an Apricot Valley Elementary School third-grader; and Angela Martinez, and Juan Serrato, Walnut Grove School fifth-graders.

Meanwhile, DeMartini also presented awards on Friday, Dec. 13 to Sacred Heart Catholic School students for their essays and their artwork, which were selected to be included in the Healthy Living Calendar for 2014.

Sacred Heart School eighth-grader Angelo Raffo, the grand prize essay winner, received a $100 gift card, as did eighth-grader Tony Dixon, the grand prize art winner. Others each received a $50 gift card. Those winners are first-graders Liam Callahan and Neiha-Marie Homer, fourth-grader Ashanti Tatum and third-grader Maria Davalos and seventh-graders James Maring and Joshua Guevarra.

Young artists and essay writers from Newman and Gustine also received prizes for their writing and calendar artwork.

The Westside Health Care Advisory Task Force was formed in 2007 to help promote a message of healthy living and a healthful lifestyle to West Side communities.
