Anthony ‘Tony’ Figueiredo

May 29, 1929 – Jan. 21, 2014

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 28 for Anthony “Tony” Figueiredo, who died on Tuesday, Jan 21, 2014 at his home after a long illness. Born to parents Antonio and Maria Figueiredo in Patterson, he was raised on the family dairy with his sisters, Linda (Allustiarte), Mary (Perez), and Dolores (Botelho). He attended Patterson schools, graduated from Patterson High School in 1947 and stayed in contact with many classmates throughout the years. In 1965 he moved to Modesto while working as an accountant for Asgrow Seed Company. He retired in 1990, after over 30 years with the company.

Mr. Figueiredo spent his retirement years as an avid gardener, turning his backyard into the envy of any botanist. He grew prizewinning camellias, cactus, palms, and epiphyllum. He was a member of the Camellia Society of Modesto, SF Botanical Garden Society, and Epiphyllum Society of America. Being proud of his Portuguese heritage, he followed the annual festa calendar, meeting many friends along the way. He was also a sports enthusiast, sharing good times watching 49ers and SF Giants games. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

His parents and three sisters predeceased Mr. Figueiredo. He is survived by many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Ben Allustiarte of Modesto and Richard Botelho of Hawaii.

A Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Sacred Heart Church in Patterson followed by a burial at Patterson District Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Figueiredo’s name may be sent to Father Connors Endowment, P.O. Box 1174, Patterson, CA 95363 or charity of the donor’s choice.
