Patterson High’s wrestling team fought its way to a second place finish in the dual meet section finals. League rival Hughson bested the Tigers 36-22 in the finals.
The city will soon add play equipment for children in Felipe Garza Park. Recreation Director Joe Bene says the cost will be about $4,500. The Soroptimist Club will be chipping in a portion of the cost.
50 years ago – February 13, 1964
High school Superintendent Thomas Hedden has been selected to assume the top position in the new Patterson Unified School District when it comes into existence July 1. He is in his second year heading the high school district, earning a salary of $12,500 a year. That will increase to $14,500 this coming school year when he assumes additional responsibilities.
The City Council has gone on record as opposing a hotel tax for Patterson, noting that its cost of administration would exceed the revenue.
“A Date with Judy” will be presented by Patterson High students with Gloria Moore playing the part of Judy and Steve Hall and Gail Hamilton her parents. Dale Johnson will be her 12-year-old brother, while Danny Gray will play Oogie Pringle.
75 years ago – February 10, 1939
Past active members of Patterson’s 20-30 Club have formed their own organization. Serving as the first president of the Past Actives’ Club is Ivan Stewart. Mario Ielmini is vice president.
PHS grad Hilmar Ingebretsen is the top-ranked 157-pound boxer on the Davis Aggies team. The team recently beat Stanford.
Rhubarb is on special at three pounds for 11 cents at Klein’s Cash Market.
100 years ago – February 714 1914
A state-wide campaign to make California “dry” was launched in Patterson this week when the local W.C.T.U. hosted an Oakland speaker on the subject.
After the demise of the Patterson Concert Band a few months ago, plans are now being pushed for a Patterson Brass Band than will include women members.
Famous aviator Silas Christofferson flew over Patterson last Monday noon on a flight that was planned to take him from Oakland to San Diego with various stops between. However, his motor was not strong enough to lift his plane over the Tejon Pass. He averaged 50 mph while in the air.
