Patterson High's varsity wrestling team, took its top 14 athletes in each of the 14 weight classes to compete at the WAC meet, which was held Saturday at Ceres High School.
Junior Daniel Cota (132 pounds) -- a three time league champion -- and senior Manuel Cruz (138) won WAC titles and 10 of 14 Tiger wrestlers competing at Saturday's league event are advancing to this week's Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV tournament at Vista Del Lago High in Moreno Valley.
Central Catholic High of Modesto won the WAC tournament team standings with 220 team points, and Los Banos High was second with 214.5 points. The Tigers placed fourth with 203 points.
With rousing success at the WAC meet last weekend, several of Patterson's underclassmen continued their impressive seasons, signaling a bright future for the program.
Patterson had a trio of wrestlers come in second place at the conference event, including freshman Adrian Luna (106), freshman Michael Boschi (160) and sophomore Jerry Arredondo (172).
Senior Jordan Canseco (126), senior Brad Gill (182) and junior Francisco Plasencia (195) also earned third-place finishes for the Tigers.
Senior Josh Roberts (120) and sophomore Tony Halcon (145) each placed in fourth for Patterson, while senior Daniel Linares and freshman Michael Vasquez finished fifth.
The top four wrestlers from each weight class advanced to the SJS Division IV championships at Vista Del Lago, with the fifth as an alternate.
After that, wrestlers will look toward the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters tournament Feb. 28 and March 1 in Stockton and the California Interscholastic Federation state championship March 7 and 8 in Bakersfield.
The season continues at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21 as Patterson travels to Vista Del Lago High for the SJS D-IV tournament.
