Walnut Grove School's Jose Gallardo earned the second-place medal at the Salida Shootout wrestling tournament hosted by Salida Middle School Saturday, March 1.

Gallardo, a seventh-grader wrestling in the 89-pound varsity weight class, won two of his three matches, including one by pin against Christensen Middle School of Livermore's Ethan Mantesino.

Walnut Grove's varsity squad was also led by medalist Hugo Godinez, a seventh-grader who claimed a third-place finish in the 128-pound bracket.

Also medaling at the Salida tournament was eighth-grader Angel Aguirre (128), who claimed a third-place finish at the junior varsity level.
