DETAILS: The Westside Readers will discuss “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak. The novel, set in a fictional town in Germany between 1939 and 1943, follows the story of Liesel Meminger beginning when she was 9-years-old. She is sad due to the death of her brother and separation of her mother at the hands of the Nazis. When friends take her in, Liesel learns to read with the help of her foster father. As the years pass the presence of the Nazi party becomes more apparent and the story unfolds.

Monday, March 17 Patterson 50-Plus Club meets WHEN: 5:30 p.m. (New Time)
WHERE: Hammon Senior Center, 1033 W. Las Palmas Ave.
DETAILS: The Patterson 50-Plus Club will meet at a new time for its monthly meeting on March 17. A catered St. Patrick’s dinner will be served with entertainment. Those who attend should bring their own table setting. Guests and non-members will pay $10 for the dinner.
Patterson Police Chief Tori Hughes was the guest speaker at the February meeting and gave information about scams and home security.
New officers Bob Covolo, president; Al Parham, vice president; Laura Broggi, treasurer; Cathy Ferreiro, secretary and E.J. Houston, sunshine, were installed in February.
The 50-Plus Club meets the third Monday of each month at the new time of 5:30 p.m. for the potluck dinner (except in July and August). Community members older than age 50 are invited to attend. Dues are $10 per person.

Friday, March 21 Sacred Heart-Lions Club fish fry
WHEN: 5 to 8 p.m.
WHERE: Bonaventure Hall, 505 M St.
DETAILS: The Patterson Lions Club and Sacred Heart Catholic School will co-host a fish fry meal that includes a baked potato or fries, bread and salad. Tickets are available at the door, from any Patterson Lions Club member or Sacred Heart Catholic School parent.
COST: $12 for adults, $6 for children younger than 12

Tuesday, March 25 Apricot Fiesta meeting WHEN: 7 p.m.
WHERE: Apricot Fiesta office, 26 South Third St., Suite G.
DETAILS: The Patterson Apricot Fiesta is fast approaching and the monthly meeting is open to all who want to volunteer at the Fiesta May 30, 31 and June 1. The upcoming fiesta features craft vendors, food vendors, contests, a parade and fireworks among other activities.
