Patterson High’s boys tennis team battled neck and neck with the Pacheco High Panthers of Los Banos before winning over the count thanks to a forfeited match on Wednesday, April 16 at Patterson High School.

Leading off the Tigers’ win was Dylan Halland with a score of 6-3 in both the first and second sets of the singles match against Pacheco’s Chris Ballesteros.

Following in Halland’s footsteps, Daniel Cota secured another impressive win in a shut-out match against Brandon Guzman, scoring 6-0 in the first and second sets of the game.

Damarrio Hammonds also notched a win under his belt after defeating Danny Espinoza 6-3 in two set match.

Doubles pair Toby Silva and German Ortiz added another win to the Tigers’ scorecard after facing Orlando Estrada and Jose Lara with a 6-1 win in the first two sets.

An honorable mention is also directed to Francisco Lagarde of Patterson, who narrowly lost to Juan Baez of Pacheco after a three set match, 6-2, 1-6, 4-6.

Pacheco closely followed on the Tigers’ heels, nearly clipping the lead after each team secured four wins apiece.

But a forfeit by the Panthers soon closed the game, allowing the local tennis team a hard-won victory. With no one to face off against Patterson’s Eddie Ramirez and Kyle Chung, the game came to an end in Patterson’s favor, 5-4 overall.
