Last week, Employment Non-Discrimination Act was described as being necessary to prevent employment discrimination against the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender population. The number one cited form of employment discrimination is race; sexual discrimination is second.
Online you’ll find conflicting statistics for LGBT employment discrimination and some graphs where sexual orientation is combined with sexual discrimination. There are many other issues with much more alarming statistics that are more deserving of the government’s time, attention and finances.
The homeless, mental illness, poverty, racism, health care, education, crime, the alarming HIV Aids deaths, transmission and new case rates are just few within that regard.
We should focus on important issues before one that gives preferential treatment to one group. So to portray ENDA as such an important issue is bias and illogical.
In 2009 President Obama stated, “People in every country should be free to choose and live their faith based upon the persuasion of the mind and the heart and the soul,” but he also stated that marriage was between one man and one woman.
But because of pressure and the financial clout of the LGBT population and their supporters he flip flopped.
How so very few could have so much influence upon laws that affect the large majority of faith believing folks is chilling.
The Hollywood elite and celebrities use their financial clout to fund lobbyists to push an agenda. The morals we all choose and vote to live by should be respected by all and not bought and paid for.
The goal of this bill is to take away religious freedoms.
Democrat Senate Maj. Leader Harry Reid, promised LGBT groups that once ENDA was passed Democrats would work to remove all religious protections. The bill contains a weak religious exemption that may protect some businesses for a while, but many would be unprotected and targets of those looking to break them financially, forcing them to close.
This bill would also grant cross dressers and transsexuals the status of being a protected class, giving them a place of preference over all other Americans in the workplace. ENDA would cause employers and employees to choose between adhering to their conscience and religious convictions or shutting down their businesses.
In New Mexico, a Christian photographer was fined $6,700 for declining to photograph a lesbian commitment ceremony. A Christian baker in Oregon is facing civil and criminal penalties, including jail time, for declining to bake a cake for a gay wedding. Her business was forced to close.
And most recently, Brendon Eich CEO of Mozilla was fired for donating $1,000 to help pass Prop 8 in 2008, even though he has always promoted and supports workplace equality.
I would urge those of you who believe in religious freedom for all to contact your Representatives and demand that they not support H.R. Bill 1755, ENDA of 2013.
Not only is this bill deceptive, it is unnecessary and will cost tax payers a whopping $47 million dollars to implement. More costs will incur to manage all of the frivolous lawsuits aimed at businesses owned by anyone deemed religious.
