A family argument inside of a Patterson Gardens home Sunday evening escalated to an attempted murder after David Broughton Jr, age 55 of Patterson, shot his sister.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. Monday June 30th, Sheriffs deputies responded to reports of a person who had been shot on the 300 block of Summer Phlox Lane in the Patterson Gardens subdivision.

The argument started Sunday evening over some repairs Broughton was making to the residence. Both Broughton and his sister live at the house along with other family members. During the argument Broughton retrieved a handgun, confronted his sister, and eventually shot her.

When deputies arrived on scene Broughton was at the residence. Deputies arrested him there and booked him at the Stanislaus County Jail for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim had to be transported by Medi-Flight to the hospital where she underwent surgery and is currently listed in stable condition.
