Dennis Costa passed away suddenly on July 8, 2014 at his home in Sonora, CA. Dennis was born on June 2, 1942 in Richmond, CA to Manuel Costa and Mary DelNero Costa.

He grew up in Patterson on the family ranch. After graduating from Patterson High School in 1961, Dennis served in the Air Force stationed in Germany and North Africa.

Dennis attended Modesto Junior College where he obtained his degree in Electronics. He spent his career working as a PBX Technician for companies including Compath, NEC

and Siemans.

Dennis loved life, family and friends. He never met a stranger or anyone he did not like. Known affectionately as “Bear” to all of his friends, he was fun-loving, generous and kind. Dennis was an avid car, boat and motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed anything with wheels or an engine that went fast and spent much of his life collecting those things.

Throughout his life, Dennis always enjoyed a good camping trip with family and friends. Dennis enjoyed working in his garden hoping to produce award-winning sunflowers

and pumpkins. He took great pride in his home and enjoyed working to maintain it.

Dennis was a long-time member of the Central Valley Drag Boat Association. He was a Board Member of the Tuolumne Sportsman Association. He was a member of the

Sons in Retirement and was an active member of The Elks Sonora Chapter #1587 where he was currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Kenneth Costa. Dennis is survived by his wife, Nicki Njirich Costa of Sonora, daughter Jennifer Gilbert (William) of Modesto, son James Costa (Caroline) of Oakland, brother Larry Costa (Carlyn) of Modesto, granddaughters Maddy Osborne of Modesto and Marley Costa of Oakland, step-daughter Shanda Schertz (Keith) and step-son Scott Van Bebber (Jeannie) of Sonora and step-son Steve Van Bebber (Erin) of San Jose, 8 step-grandchildren, 1 step-great-grandchild, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and his 4-legged companion Asia.

Graveside service was held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 11:00AM at Patterson District Cemetery, 10800 Hwy. 33, Patterson, CA.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014, at Noon at the Sonora Elk’s Lodge, 100 Elk Drive, Sonora, CA.

Terzich & Wilson Funeral Home in Sonora has been entrusted with arrangements.
