Local artists from youth to adults have been creating projects and artwork that aim to benefit the victims of human trafficking, and they will exhibit and sell those works to the public from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16.

The Paint for Freedom Art Gala reception and auction at the Patterson Covenant Church, 435 W. Las Palmas Ave., aims to raise money for aftercare rescue house called New Day for Children for girls under age 18 who have been rescued from sex trafficking.

The local church put on a forum focusing on the issues of human trafficking around the world three years ago, and a representative of the facility was on and to tell about the programs available to get rescued teens ready to be placed with their family or receive education, job training and get skills for a normal life.

Community residents are invited to attend the gala and see and purchase the work made by local artists.
