The Patterson City Council will have two meetings this week, with much of the heavy lifting happening during a special Thursday, May 21, meeting. The regular meeting tonight is relatively light.
Thursday is when the council will decide if the Del Puerto Health Care Facility can move to the Keystone Pacific Business Park in west Patterson. The issue became controversial when the health facility’s landlord, John Ramos, opposed the move and appealed the Patterson Planning Commission’s approval. To resolve the matter, the council hired a lawyer to see if the move is allowable under city rules.
The lawyer’s opinion was released this week. William Abbott of Abbott and Kindermann said in a letter to the council that the appeal should be granted.
However, by doing so the council would delay the district’s move, which would add costs and possibly leave the health facility without a lease in March, district officials said.
The council will also convene at 7 p.m. tonight for its regular meeting, when councilors will discuss reorganizing the city’s disaster policies.
Thursday's special meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Both meetings will be at the council chambers at City Hall, 1 Plaza.
