Sept. 13, 1984 — 25 years ago

Negotiators for the Patterson Association of Teachers and the Patterson Joint Unified School District have reached an agreement for a tentative pay increase for teachers of 8.5 percent for 184 workdays. The Monday night board meeting, where the proposed settlement was announced, was attended by half of the nearly 100 teachers in the school district.

Lilia Delgado, who was critically injured in a single-car accident Aug. 22, left Kaiser Hospital in Redwood City, where she underwent neurological testing. She returned home Tuesday.

Sept. 17, 1959 — 50 years ago

The Patterson Golden Jubilee Edition of the Patterson Irrigator contained 24 pages of news, historic photos, weekend schedules and a map of the parade route for the Thursday-through-Sunday celebration. Old-timers have registered for a special coffee hour, folks will dress in period costumes, and eight women are in the running to be queen of the Golden Jubilee.

Local businesses will close early Saturday, and the parade will begin with a flyover of jet aircraft from the Crows Landing Naval Auxiliary Landing Field.

Sept. 21, 1934 — 75 years ago

The third annual Horsethief Bend Celebration is planned for the upcoming weekend. The event is to revive the good times of the pioneer days along the San Joaquin River.

Patterson’s third annual observance of the St. Anthony Celebration was carried out without a hitch. Thousands of people gathered Saturday night for the opening grand ball and other events at the American Legion Hall. The biggest gathering was Sunday for the Portuguese parade, which was led by the Patterson High School band.
