Friends of the Library set book sale dates

The Friends of the Patterson Library will host a used booksale at the library, 46 N. Salado Ave., in mid-October.

The book sale will be from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 23.

Paperbacks will be sold for 50 cents each, while hardback books, CDs, tapes and vidoes will sell for $1 each. On the Big Sale Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 26, book lovers can buy books for $5 a bag.

The sale will not be on Oct. 22, as the library is closed on Thursdays.

Proceeds from the booksales in October and April are used for children’s programs, magazine subscriptions and other supplies for the library.

New members are always welcome to come join the Friends of the Library.

Chamber hosts Lobsterfest

The Patterson-Westley Chamber of Commerce will host a Lobsterfest on Oct. 24 at the Masonic Hall, 650 N. Sixth St.

Cocktails will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7. The $40 ticket price includes a 1-pound lobster, rice pilaf, salad, rolls and no-host bar. The money raised will go to the chamber. Tickets are available from any chamber member.

50-Plus Club meets in Newman

The Orestimba 50-Plus Club in Newman will meet at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in the L.J. Newman Hall, 649 Orestimba Road, in Newman. Vangie Rose, Marlene Terry, Ellie Greer and Jeannie Madenwald will provide refreshments. Rosemary Bettencourt and Lorraine Mendonca have volunteered to serve in the kitchen.

The club’s spaghetti feed has been changed to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 16.

The Sept. 18 meeting took place after a one-month absence of meetings. A moment of silence was observed for Lorraine Bettencourt, a hard-working officer of the club.

Connie Andersen, recording secretary, reported receiving a thank-you card from Mary Ramos and sending a sympathy card to Mamie Gomes. President Kent Madenwald thanked Wanda Thompson for her donation of coffee to the club.

The club members sang the birthday song to Rosie Howard and Mary Pimentel. Millie Moudry won the 50-50 prize, and Bud Greer won the sign-in prize.

A four-day, three-night tour to Laughlin, Nev., is planned for Oct. 19 to 22. For details, contact Berry Servos, 862-0787.
