Talent call in Newman

A talent call for actors interested in participating in the 24-hour Play Fest on May 8 will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 3, at the West Side Theatre, 1331 Main St., in Newman.

Inspiracy Arts, Patterson Repertory Theatre and Westside Players of Newman will participate.

Anyone interested should take a resume listing past acting experience and a headshot, if they have one. Newcomers interested in trying out and acting for the first time are welcome.

Cinco de Mayo celebration

The Patterson-Westley Chamber of Commerce will host a Cinco de Mayo party in downtown Patterson from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 5.

Music, food and beer will be served, and donation drawings will be conducted. Folk dancers will perform at 5 p.m., and a Chihuahua beauty pageant will begin at 6 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit future chamber events.

Registration open for Fiesta bridge tournament

The Patterson Apricot Fiesta Bridge Tournament will be from 1 to 5 p.m. May 17 at the Hammon Senior Center, 1033 W. Las Palmas Ave. Refreshments will be served.

Entry fee is $6 per person, and bridge players and partners should register by May 14.

Westside Theatre announces May offerings

The Westside Theatre, 1331 Main St., in Newman, will feature three weekends of music in the month of May. Doors open at 7 p.m., and all shows begin at 8.

• Saturday, May 1: Traditional Celtic jigs and reels will be featured when Molly’s Revenge takes the stage to combine vocals with bagpipes, whistles, fiddle, guitar, bouzouki and mandola. Tickets are $17 general admission, $20 reserved. The band’s website is www.mollysrevenge.com.

• May 15: High Country, a traditional bluegrass band, has been around for 40 years. The band has been influenced by Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs and the Stanley Bros. and offers originals and standards from blues to gospel. Tickets are $12 general admission, $15 reserved. • May 22: The Terry Hanck Band will bring blues music to the Newman stage. Chicago native Hanck is known for his saxophone, musical range and vocals, influenced by the blues, soul and jazz music of the 1950s and early ’60s. Tickets are $14 general admission, $17 reserved seating. The band’s website is www.terryhanck.net.
